INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF APPLIED GEOPHYSICS

Founded in 1974

1st Director Roberto Cassinis

The complex problems of new technology applications require the participation of physicists and mathematicians. The development of geophysical exploration has been exceptional over the last two decades. Applied geophysics is now closely linked to general geophysics, which considers exploration methods for deep exploration. However, very sophisticated methodologies are required for shallow and medium depth exploration to better meet the growing need for resources from around the world. In Italy, organisations capable of contributing to research in this field unfortunately do not operate with adequate coordination and are not sufficiently specialised, despite the excellent background and valuable work of some individual researchers. The main objective of the school is therefore to create a meeting place for Italian and foreign researchers to update, compare and exchange knowledge on topical issues concerning new fields and methods of interpretation, as well as the application of known techniques to the solution of geological problems of economic value.
