The goal of the workshop is to create a cultural bridge between astronomers and computer scientists. It also intends to continue the evolution of data analysis in the field of observational astrophysics. Examples of discussion topics include ‘Systems for Data Analysis,’ ‘Systems for Data Processing’ (planned for large satellites and ground experiments), analysis in relation to data processing, and analysis of the operational performance of current large experiments in space astronomy (HST, ROSAT, GRO, etc.) and future missions (SAX, Spectrum X-Gamma, etc.). In the past, the workshop has included demonstrations of data analysis systems operating on specialized computers.
