The aim of these workshops is to bring together experimental physicists actively involved in the preparation of experiments with the SPS and theoretical physicists, in order to critically discuss and evaluate the possibilities of the experiments in preparation from the point of view of flexibility towards new trends in physics that could be initiated by the discovery of new particles. Existing experimental data on the production and decay of new particles will be examined by various speakers. There will be ample room for discussion and further contributions from participants are particularly welcome. Several SPS experiments in preparation will be presented, with the emphasis on specific experimental hardware and a discussion of whether such hardware can provide the necessary detection capability for experiments in this new and exciting field of physics.
